My parent's and I had fulfilled our responsibility in our contract with Roedean School:
1. I know the school fees were paid in full and on time, to the end of the year. In fact they owe us money.
2. My parent's took care I turned up to school well presented, and I was encouraged at all times to behave well.
3. I know my parent's informed the school promptly of their concerns in relation to my education.
4. My parent's or I had not disparaged the name of the school and had up until now kept our grievances private.
5. Our conduct and manners remained polite, expressing our concerns at all times in a reasonable manner.
The school Roedean, had not only as I understand it 'breached a contract' which was commited to educating me until 6th Form, but whilst I was in attendance improperly neglected my education and welfare. I was then subjected to a cruelly extended suspension without warning, and expelled in complete disregard to "natural justice", for no good reason other than to punish my parents for persisting in having some very serious concerns addressed, and investigated. These concerns were never procedurally handled.
No school is above the law. Parents should have a right to question the service they are receiving for what they are financially supporting, as in any business, without fear of retribution. Additionally, by Roedean claiming a 'charitable' status, it will have further obligations it must be seen to uphold.
By removing me as a local girl who has a very high IQ, was a gifted artist and accomplished performing artist by the age of 11 at a critical time in my school year, reduced me to the margins of my community, humiliating and isolating me without due care or interest for my education or welfare. Furthermore, for a school to provide inaccurate and injurious records which would have followed my removal, would put into question the suitability of those teachers who made these reports to have been around someone as young as myself then. They had so unforgivably betrayed my trust.
Without Roedean's explanation or their willingness to respond to my parent's Heads of Claim, it can only appear their damaging actions must flow from what their response would reveal. Roedean have not explained why there appears to have been no mechanism in place to offer anyone a Junior Art Scholarship/Exhibition or Junior Performing Arts Scholarship/Exhibition for 11+ entry September 2001, despite their advertising them, and particularly in my case, making an invitation. |
